![]() It would cost me about 4 grand of profit.Apple has, somewhat deservedly, come in for some serious flak since unveiling a $999.99 Pro Stand for the Mac Pro Display XDR at WWDC, but one monitor manufacturer can see the funny side. I’d love to have a macpro sitting on my desk with matching monitor and stand. Or be very dedicated to your sense of taste, as its a great design. You’d have to be stupid, rich, stupid and rich, or stupid rich to just spend 1000 of your own personal money for this. So it costs my business 2k, and in terms of actual take home profit, the purchase cost is about $1000, not factoring in that I could have just taken home that money instead.but thats a more complex cost analysis. And it serves double duty for photographyįor a 6k monitor.I get 4k in tax deductions, and its purchased using pretax money. Some of my software doesnt like two monitors. I don’t want a divider across my workspace. Why buy this specific one? Well, two monitors take up more room, and its PITA to drag windows across. But i can view multiple images and docs on one screen, at full size. As a business expense, its pretax, (so its really like $150 out of my pocket.Īt $200-300 an hour, the stand is justifiable. I ‘d get a second deduction ($700 over time) for over the next few years. and since it will normally it will be studios buying up these displays with a studios enormous budget for movies they will probably not blink once with an additional 1k for a monitor stand From a business perspective they probably aren't making a high profit margin on this display compared to their other products so they have to make up some profit margin by selling the display stand at 1k to make up for small profit margin and help offset the cost of R&D on the display. Yes $5k is a bargain for a display of this caliber. If you would want a comparable one like Apple 's reference display you would have to spend 10-20k which means this is a bargain. A non cherry picked example would be a sony reference display Sony PVMA250 25" it goes for $5500 but this one lacks features that Apple has such as 6k HDR and its only 25" compared to Apples 32" display and the Sony is also ONLY 1080p. These displays are known as reference displays most likley to be used with movie studios. If you understand display specs you'll understand that those are monster specs they provided with this display. Apple was cherrypicking but they still made there point. ![]()
